The PRC offers a variety of resources for students preparing for the Praxis

Sara Ridgway

With the spring 2017 semester underway, education majors are going to take the Praxis I or Praxis II soon and should start preparing.

The Praxis Resource Center (PRC), located in room 320 of Hennings Hall, provides a variety of services, resources and preparation sessions that students taking the Praxis can benefit from.

Praxis review sessions offered in the spring 2017 semester include:

Reading Core: Monday and Thursday 2 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. (all semester)

Math Core: Monday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (until Monday, March 20, 2017)

Math Praxis II: Wednesday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (until Thursday, March 23, 2017)

Science Praxis II: Tuesday 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Thursday 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. (all semester)

All sessions are held at the PRC. More sessions are being added for Core and Praxis II. Stay up to date with the PRC at the Kean University Website.

The PRC is open on Mondays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Be aware that when Kean University is closed, so is the center.

Manager of the PRC Elizabeth Satchel encourages students to attend as many of the workshops offered as they can.

"The sessions cover the topics [that] will be on the actual tests," Satchell said. "They should not wait until the last minute to begin preparing for the test(s)."

As these sessions are free to students, Satchell said that students should take full advantage of the opportunity.

"The Praxis Resource Center [PRC] also offers other resources to help the students prepare for the Praxis," Satchell said. "We even have a peer math tutor whose one-on-one tutoring has made a difference in whether they passed or failed the math Praxis."

Other services the PRC has to offer that students can use to their advantage include:

  • Praxis study guides
  • Online test preparation vouchers
  • One-on-One math tutoring (Wednesdays only)
  • ETS/Praxis webinars and workshops
  • PRC and Praxis Series Exams Orientation
  • Assistance in Praxis registration
  • Study skills CD's
  • Test preparation handouts
  • Computers for registering, viewing webinars and taking practice tests
  • A space for Praxis preparation and study groups
