Attention word connoisseurs of the Kean community: a tournament of words is coming. On Monday, April 10, 2017, the Kean Writing Center and The Cougar’s Byte will be welcoming individuals to their Words for Friends, a Scrabble-inspired fundraiser.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. in the Miron Student Center (MSC) Cougar’s Den, players of all skill levels are welcome to come out for a night of fun with the timeless word game.

The cost to play ranges on how a person wishes to play. A single player will pay $5, playing doubles costs $4 and a team pays a collective entrance fee of $8. For those considering a team setup, there is a limit of four players.

All proceeds will be donated to Bernice’s Place.

A part of the non-profit organization Elizabeth Coalition to House the Homeless, Bernice’s Place acts as a safe place for homeless and at-risk children in Elizabeth to socialize with other children while studying and playing. While at Bernice’s Place, the children are given “a healthy meal and snack,” a well-needed meal for many of the children, as stated on the website.

Registration prior to Words for Friends is encouraged. Interested participants can register online at http://tinyurl.com/keanwordsforfriends. Or, those playing can register at the doors before the game begins.
