On Thursday, April 6, 2017, Kean Dance Teatre (KDT) hosted its annual showcase in Wilkins Theatre. Students cheered through the night as they were swept by each performance.

KDT is Kean University's resident dance company that has been active for 36 years. This year their showcase theme was Save The Last Dance, and the showcase really reflected that.

“It was great to see all the student dancers come together in one act,” said communication major and freshman, Rachelle Pittman

The showcase started off with the entire KDT cast dancing to Bruno Mars song "24K Magic." The performance was followed by student Roshorn Shivers, Jr. in a solo act dancing to the song "I Put a Spell On You" by Annie Lennox.

Many of the dances performed that night were hip-hop or pop dance. A group of dancers danced to the rhythm of a few Beyonce songs like "Ring the Alarm" and "Upgrade You."

The one dance that had many people feeling all sorts of feelings, was titled Always and Forever My Buddy danced and choreographed by Khalonie Forman. Forman dedicated a dance to her grandfather who had passed away in 2016. Along with the dance, Forman had a slideshow with pictures of her and her grandfather signifying their close relationship.

"It was inspirational. The praise dance was my favorite. It was really nice to see her release her pain through dance,'' commented senior Olivia Felder, a psychology major.

Throughout the show, the crowd was very energetic, cheering on every member on stage. At one point during the show, the Cougar came on stage and danced alongside the cast, making some of the attendees laugh. By the end of the show, students were standing up and dancing along with the cast as they were dancing their final number. The cast wore colorful t-shirts and danced to the beat of the song "I Believe" by Yolanda Adams.

All in all the show was amazing and KDT had yet another successful Spring Showcase. It was colorful, enjoyable and not only a memorable night for the dancers, but for the audience as well.

The same showcase was also performed on Saturday, April 8, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

KDT can be seen at different events like Homecoming, Open House, Culture Fest, American College Dance Festival and other major events. For more information about the long-standing dance team, visit theKDT Cougar Link page.
