Beautiful, vibrant, and breathtaking are just some of the words used to describe Kean University's newly constructed campus. Located in the Oak-Ridge section of Jefferson, New Jersey, Kean Skylands is surrounded by stunning scenary.

On Friday, Oct. 18, select students got a chance to visit the new campus and take a tour to see what Kean Skylands has to offer them. The Skylands campus sits on 40 acres of land in West New Jersey. The campus is conveniently located near County College of Morris, Sussex County Community College and Passaic County Community College. Kean Skylands is dedicated to assisting county college graduates who want to make a smooth transition into earning their Bachelor's degrees.

"The campus at Kean Skylands is a beautiful campus. I think it has a lot of potential and it also gives a different perspective to a lot of Kean students," said Lindsey Gonzalez, junior class president of the Class of 2021 and business major at the Kean Union campus.

Kean Skylands has been renovated to include nine classrooms, a gym, 24 residential rooms and flexible spaces for events. The campus also has an elevated sky walk, a tree house and a three-level cabin filled with classrooms and plans to expand.

As of right now, Kean Skylands offers four degree programs of completion, for those who have already obtained their associate's degrees from their local community college and want the World Class Education experience Kean has to offer close to home. Kean does plan on expanding these programs in the near future. Current degree options include:

  • B.S. in Biology (Environmental Option)
  • B.A. in Criminal Justice
  • B.S. in Management (General Business Option)
  • B.A. in Psychology

The Skylands campus gives students an opportunity to study in an environment where they can conduct research in their selected fields. The campus is also for any student who wants to take classes and enjoy the surrounding scenery. The location provides opportunities for students who are in the area and do not want to travel far so that they may have an easier transition into the Kean community. Kean has a mission to welcome their students no matter where they come from and continue to provide the resources to allow future Cougars to excel in their degree area of choice.

"I think this campus will help students become engaged. I think, as transfer students, they might have been a little discouraged or lost hope about how successful their transfer will be, but I think Kean offers a great opportunity for their credits to be accepted and for students to feel happy about continuing their education," said Kebira Belmaachi, student aid within the Office of Student Government, psychology and sociology double major at the Kean Union campus.

No matter what the occasion is or how a student plans on obtaining their undergraduate degree, Kean Skylands provides gorgeous scenery to take classes in or to simply admire the surrounding area like the nearby surrounding woods or lake. This addition is another example of how Kean University expands their resources to truly help students to climb higher.
