Career Services is a department at Kean University that is centered around helping students and alumni grow professionally. Their main goal is to help students launch their careers through defining their goals and acquiring fulfilling professional experience. They have been able to aid students in many ways such as hosting workshops, helping students get internships, advisement and more.

With the rise of the COVID-19 virus, Career Services has transitioned to offering their services virtually to ensure that students do not miss out on what they have to offer. Students can make virtual appointments by emailing career@kean.edu and include their name, student ID#, major and the reason they are attending. With this information, they will be able to schedule an appointment to fit the students availability.

Their hours of operation are as follows, however it should be noted that early morning and late night appointments can be scheduled outside of these hours if needed:

  • Mon.-Thurs.: 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

  • Fri.: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

As mentioned, there are many ways that Career Services aids students, from helping build their resume to finding a career post-grad. For example, they offer career and major advising services. Students can talk to the staff to explore what opportunities they have and which of these opportunities might be best for them. Students can share their personal interests and explain their values and skills to the staff. Based on the student, they will recommend various career and internship opportunities. Through this, students can be guided on a path to help them succeed in the future.

They also aid students in internships and job searching by helping build their skills so that they can learn in time to do this on their own. Career Services helps students learn the best strategies to find what they are looking for when it comes to jobs and internships. Additionally, they provide interview preparation as well as mock interviews to help students feel more comfortable and confident when faced with interviews, as this is a vital part to obtaining a job or internship. They share how one should prepare for the interview, what to expect and efficient techniques to use to make oneself stand out.

Another vital factor to obtaining an internship or job is an effective resume, which can be very overwhelming for students. A lot of students do not even know where to start when making a resume. This is why Career Services offers resume writing, critiques and reviews to ensure that students feel confident when handing over their resume to future employers.

They also have an Online Employment & Internship Portal which they recommend students to use. Here, users can search through various professional opportunities to help find what they are looking for.
