Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) is an annual event that allows students and Greek organizations to join together through dance. On Friday, April 14, Greek Senate celebrated the ninth anniversary of KDM.

KDM holds great importance as it commemorates students’ efforts in fundraising on behalf of the Children’s Specialized Hospital located in Mountainside, NJ. Students recognized its significance and helped raise a large sum in donations. Since April 2014, KDM has helped raise over $230,000.

Starting at 6 p.m., many fraternities and sororities interacted by dancing and strolling with their respective members. Greek organizations also presented a tabling event where each table had a different theme. Nu Theta Chi gave out candy while donning shirts displaying the slogan, “It’s laughter we’re after.”

“As a Latina sorority, [we] wanted to have our table theme connected to our culture,” said Mya Roman, a member of Lambda Theta Alpha.

Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated took inspiration from the movie, “Encanto” as it promotes the importance of a diverse Latinx family and community. The sorority hosted “Pin The Tail On the Donkey” and “Match The Character To Their Quote,” which brought in many people.

Alongside the marathon, students were kept on their toes by a raffle that offered prizes such as paintings, custom Kean tote bags, shirts, and shoes. Other attractions included live painting sessions, a cup pong table, and a live DJ. Attendees had a good time but wished there had been more student involvement from the campus.

“Being a Neo and getting to meet everyone in the yard was definitely a new experience,” said Myles Toppin, a member of Iota Phi Theta. “It was more Greek than anything, and it would’ve been better if there was more of the student body.”

While many didn’t attend, students at the event enjoyed the festivities. With Kean Dance Marathon in the books, students are gearing up for finals and preparing for the end of the semester. The Student Affairs Media Team congratulates Greek Senate for another successful KDM event!
