Praise the imagination that made the poem or masterpiece possible. But most importantly, praise the beauty and intensity behind the emotion the poem releases; for it is not often that one may read a piece as moving, natural, and rhythmic as a poem.

Walking through the University Center during college hour after a long day of scheduled classes is a campus trip that many typical Kean University students can relate to. Some decide to go to the lounge located in Hennings Hall. Others decide to take their minds off upcoming exams by going into the game room and playing pool. However, many just want to find a place to eat, whether it is the University Center cafeteria or the Cougar's Den. Jasiya Tariq, a sophomore majoring in information technology was no different. Born and raised in the city of Lahore in Punjab, Pakistan, Tariq was always surrounded by family, culture and Muslim religion. At 14, Tariq and her family moved to the United States where she began to experience the life of an American. Never forgetting where she came from, she continued to wear her traditional clothing. After graduating from high school in 2007, she decided to take a year off from school to focus more on her religion, as well as herself.
"After taking a break, I decided to go to Devry University; however, the environment was not what I was looking for," explained Tariq. After experiencing discrimination in Devry University, Tariq decided to transfer to a more diverse atmosphere.
As a first year Kean student, Tariq was instantly fascinated not only by the colorful scenery but how the students interacted with one another. Staying loyal to her religion, she went to One Stop, located in the Maxine and Jack Lane Center for Academic Success (CAS) and asked if there was a praying room on campus.
"To my surprise there was a prayer room right in the building," she exclaimed. Since then, she continuously goes to room 442 in the CAS to pray with others of her religion. One day, she went to the prayer room and bumped into another Muslim student who told her about the Muslim Student Association group on campus. After joining the student group for a semester, Tariq was voted vice president of the group. Later, spring 2011, she became president.
Tariq immediately began organizing bake sales as well as other fundraising events throughout the Kean campus. "We have been trying to bring Hallal food into the cafeteria, however we need the support of the Kean community," Tariq explained.
Hallal is a type of meat that is always blessed before it is cooked and eaten. The Qu'ran, the Muslim bible, teaches animals should be treated with respect and care. When animals are to be killed for food, those doing the task are to limit the amount of pain the animal goes through. Once the meat is drained and processed, it is cut and blessed
As president of the Muslim Student Association, Tariq encourages not only students from the Muslim religion, but also other religions to witness for themselves the different conversations that take place during the meetings.
MSA meets every Tuesday during college hour in the CAS in room 442. "The room is open all day for students who wish to utilize it for praying," Tariq added. "Everyone is welcome.
