Timothy Ryan, supervisory special agent for the Cyber Investigations Squad of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and native to New Jersey, will be discussing the significance of science and technology in crime fighting on Thursday, April 8, 2010, in Kean Hall at 3:15 p.m. The free event is open to students, faculty and the public and will be hosted by Kean University's Department of Computer Science and Technology. The presentation is also hosted in correlation with the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and the criminal justice department at Kean. Mr. Ryan is alumni of Kean earning his bachelor's degree in 1992 and earned a law degree from Rutgers University School of Law in Newark and currently he is in the process of completing a Master of Science in Information Technology and Information Assurance from the University of Maryland.Mr. Ryan has worked with the FBI since 1999 and his duties include investigating computer hackings and intrusions, intellectual property and child pornography. During his career with the government agency, has served at FBI headquarters, and in the FBI's New York and Newark Field Offices, and has conducted investigations into acts of counterterrorism and counterintelligence on national security. Mr. Ryan has also examined the anthrax attacks and the death of Kathy Nguyen, and carried out collection of evidence and medical support at the Fresh Kills landfill in the aftermath of 9/11. He will be available for a question and answer session, along with his colleague who is a full-time digital forensic examiner, after the presentation.
