Many students choose a major that unfortunately becomes unsatisfying to their taste. Students, then, may want to change to a major that will satisfy their taste buds. Fortunately, students do not have to wait long to change majors—or chose a major if one is undecided—as there is a way for a student to go about this.

In order for students to change their majors one must obtain a “Change Your Major” form which can be found online, at the registrar office, as well as over at the Center for Academic for Success [CAS] on each floor. When a student finishes filling out the form they must get the sheet signed by the head of the department in which one would like to change into. Then one must hand in the completely filled form to One-Stop Service Center in CAS or hand it in  at registrar.

When a student is changing majors they may consider one of the following majors to change to:

Undergraduate Programs:

Finance
Accounting
Computer Science
Mechanical Engineering
Marketing

Graduate Programs:
Human Resources
Electrical Engineering
Information Science/System
Logistics/Supply Chain

The professions listed above are in high demand of workers. A survey has been done by National Association of Colleges and Employers [NACE] Job Outlook where 260 business had responded to a survey during the time frame of August and October of 2014. It was recorded that over 50 percent of business that are hiring undergraduate graduates and graduate graduates will indeed hire someone who graduated with a finance, a computer science, and or an accounting degree.

Not only can students change majors, but students can also obtain a minor. Question is how can one obtain a minor? Below is a list of requirements of how a student can obtain a minor:

  • All departments or schools on campus should provide guide sheets for minor programs and is declared once a student applies for graduation. A student can declare a minor by obtaining a form from the academic program when in the process of applying for graduation. Once a student is filling out the form for graduation, all requirements for the minor must be met and the department or school of the minor must verify that one has completed all requirements for the minor. Once the department or school verifies that one has completed all requirements for the minor then that form must be sent to the registrar’s office.
  • A student must take a minimum of 18 semester hours in order to hold a minor. As of fall of 2014, students are able to minor in more than one academic field. Students must not hold a minor in a major one is studying in.
  • If a student is transferring from one institute to Kean University, a student will not be able to transfer more than one and a half credits for that minor.
  • Courses can only be accepted as a minor if a student can pass the course with a grade of a “C” or higher.
  • Out of the minimum of 18 semester hours a student must take in order to hold a minor, one must also take a minimum of six semester hours from the 3000 or 4000 level courses.
  • There will be a section on a student’s transcript for minors
  • A minor must be given by a program of academics and has a possibility of including electives.

Students should consider one of the above  tasks before his or her last semester of college. The earlier a student changes their major and or obtains a minor, the earlier the student will graduate.
