From Monday, November 16 through Saturday, November 21, 2015, the Center for International Studies (CIS) hosted International Education Week. This event was held in the Center for Academic Success (CAS) building room 121 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Director of CIS Yaruby Petit-Frere comments that International Education Week served “to bring the Kean community together and celebrate internationalism and educate students on global interconnectivity.” CIS hosts this event every year in November and does so because “it is a national movement sponsored by the US Department of State through education,” comments Petit-Frere. “It’s done on an annual basis to raise awareness and celebrate educational exchange worldwide.”

At this event attendees were able to take pictures in a photo booth and wear international head clothing that is worn in different cultures. One day consisted of students being invited to view a Bollywood performance held in Morristown. Another day, attendees were able to taste desserts from around the world. Not only that, but students were also able to contribute in a flag contest or a photo contest. Even take a tour of the United Nations headquarters located in New York, New York.

There was also a day dedicated to a Study Abroad info session. On Thursday, November 19, 2015, students were able to receive information on how they could study abroad and could even hear some students’ study abroad experiences. On the last day, Saturday, November 21, attendees were able to go to Bryan Park located in New York City and ice skate from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

If anyone was unable to attend any of the events during International Education Week, don’t worry. Petit-Frere comments that CIS will “continue similar activities through the school year to engage our community and bridge American Kean community with our international population.”

The CIS is a department with a primary focus of “promoting a world-class education through actual practical activities and to expose our connectivity within Kean community,” comments Petit-Frere, “it is a space where every nation has a voice and are given the space to represent themselves.” CIS strives to promote international education around campus and host this event every year helps with the promotion.
