Want to experience classes overseas? Look into studying abroad next semester. The Center for International Studies [CIS] coordinates Kean University’s study abroad program. On Thursday, February 26, 2015, CIS hosted a study abroad fair. This fair was held between the hours of 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. on the first floor of Center for Academic Success [CAS].

The study abroad fair was the perfect opportunity for students to learn and ask questions about studying abroad. Students can participate for a full semester, an academic year, or a short-term faculty-led Travelearn program. “Study abroad allows students to grow intellectually, develop intercultural skills, and learn or develop foreign language skills.” There are over 30 countries that are available to students from all majors. All courses are applied to degree requirements.

There are requirements when studying abroad. Students must meet a minimum grade point average [GPA] in the semester prior to their intent to stay abroad. In general, a student must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA at the time of their application deadline. Also, the student must at least be a sophomore.

The CIS office is located in CAS room 121 and they “strive to infuse ideals of international education through the University.” They pride themselves and are dedicated to serving the diverse needs of students, faculty, and the community seeking global connections.

Also located in the CIS office is the International Student Services [ISS]. ISS is responsible “for the International Student community and strives to provide the highest service in aspects such as immigration regulations, support, and social interactions.”

Explore the world while earning degree credits. As Saint Augustine said, “The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page”. Thanks to the CIS and ISS offices, studying abroad is easier than people think. The opportunity to study abroad is only a few steps ahead.

Any student interested in studying abroad and meets the requirements may contact CIS. Feel free to visit their website www.keaninternational.com or contact them by email at cis@kean.edu. Prior to visiting them be sure to make an appointment by email. The hours for CIS are Monday- Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
