Paul Agui, senior biology major, has always sought for ways to get involved on campus and expand his horizons. He became a brother of Beta Kappa Psi Black and Latino Fraternity in spring 2012 and believes his experiences are irreplaceable and memorable.

Serving as treasurer for his fraternity, he has been exposed to many opportunities and able to gain the true value of brotherhood. “Being a brother has given me so much that it is really incomparable. From networking programs, volunteering, cooking, baking, and performing, it has been one of my greatest accomplishments,” declared Agui.

Agui also works as a residence assistant (RA) on campus, where he is expected to attend weekly meetings, host programs that are of interest to the student body, and mediate any conflicts that arise among students who reside on campus. He states, “being an [RA] is a life changer for me. It helps me become a leader, para-professional, and overall a better me.”

Through all of his extracurricular involvement, Agui believes he has grown both academically and creatively. He currently interns at Overlook Medical Center, a non-profit teaching hospital that engages students in learning about hospitality and biological disciplines. He also holds the executive board position for the Human Rights Club, and is a member of the Biology Club and Physical Therapy Club on campus. “I joined the Human Rights Club because it is something I truly deeply believe in.”

Since biology is his major, he believes it is nice to communicate with others that are in the same direction as him, which is why he joined the Biology Club. Joining the Physical Therapy Club has given him interesting insights on his career growth. He does not consider biology as just a subject to learn about, but as a way to make connections with people as it relates and corresponds to the biological world and human nature.

When Agui graduates from Kean University, he wants to work in a clinic or hospital as a physical therapist and assist those who need help and proper care. He also would like to achieve his license in massage therapy and possibly travel to Europe to see what possibilities are out there. Agui is a very optimistic student who lives his life as it comes. “If I were to share any good advice with anyone, I would tell them to do things that scare them. Since everyone’s lifestyle is different, we all go through different experiences. I like to roll the dice and see where it falls.”
