On Wednesday, August 26, 2015, first time Kean University students came together to explore the campus and see what the university has to offer.

These students may be new to the campus, but they aren’t new to college life. On August 26, the School of General Studies hosted the annual Transfer Student Orientation, which allowed incoming transfer students to explore what Kean University has to offer.

President Dawood Farahi, President of Student Affairs Janice Murray-Laury, and a few other speakers attended the orientation, giving key points to the audience. Students listened with their ears wide opened as Farahi welcomed the students to not only a new step in their lives but a new start to their educational journey.

Incoming transfer students were also able to walk around the main lobby of the Center for Academic Success (CAS) and meet with a variety of organizations that are on campus, which ranged from health services to the office of student government. It was a great experience for all, especially for junior Devyn Rosario, who is majoring in special education, Rosario comments, “I like the atmosphere and, of course, the orientation. It was very informative and the teaching program here is great as well.”

Many students decided to transfer to Kean University because of how well its teaching program is. For instance, sophomore Dave Barbosa, who is majoring in special education, transferred from Ramapo College and believes that schools around the Newark City area such as Kean University has a bright educational program that can get him to where he wants to be in life.

Some students also like the fact that the school is very large in size compared to other New Jersey schools, while others were focused on the wide range of organizations the university has to choose from. Junior marketing student Tony Palazzio comments that Kean University is “more convenient than [previous attended school]. I see the many great things that Kean [University] has to offer…and I love the resources [located] on campus.”

All in all, the transfer students enjoyed learning the helpful information that they received on Wednesday, August 26, because they learned more than simply what is needed to know in order to pass a class or how to register for classes. With Kean University’s “World Class Education” and amazing atmosphere, these incoming students will be able to fit right in and become a part of the Cougar family.
