Violinist virtuoso and highly celebrated musician Joshua Bell, alongside pianist Sam Haywood, will be performing at the Enlow Recital Hall on Sunday, October 25, 2015. Bell will be preforming chamber music on his 1713 Huberman Stradivarius violin with an 18 century French Bow made by François Tourte.

Bell, as said by The Boston Herald, “is the greatest American violinist active today.” He has been playing violin since the age of four and became widely known at the age of 14 when he made his first debut in the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. Since then he has won multiple accolades, which includes:

  • Indiana University Distinguished Alumni Service Award: An award given to alumni who has showed great achievements after graduating from Indiana University. Bell won this award in 1991, two years after he received his bachelor’s degree.
  • Gramaphone Award: This award is a prestigious classical award. Musicians are nominated from critics who will pick from a pool of over 2,000 reviews. He won this award in 1998.
  • Grammy Award: Bell has won two Grammy awards, obtaining the first Grammy in 2000.
  • Paul Newman Award for Service to the Arts and Children: This award is awarded to those who prove to be a strong role model to children and who encourages them to aim high and follow their dreams. Bell won this award in 2011.

Not only has Bell won several awards, but he has also played for three United States presidents and for the president of China. He is currently the director for the Academy of St. Martin In The Fields, which is an English-based chamber ensemble. He is the first person to be named to this position since founder of the ensemble Neville Marriner formed it in the late 1950s.
