Student Organizations of college campuses around the country hold programs to discuss cultural and social issues such as race and equality but one topic tends to go overlooked: the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community. The sisters of Chi Upsilon Sigma National Latin Sorority Inc. have taken it upon themselves to bridge that gap and reached out to Kean University’s gay/straight alliance Equality for All to hold a panel discussing relevant issues within their community in Miron Student Center (MSC) room 315A on Monday, November 16, 2015, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Throughout this event, stereotypes and stigmas will be addressed and debunked by members of the Kean community who identify themselves as Gay, Lesbian, or Bisexual. Both organizations are hoping that attendees will take away some truth from what the people have to say and hopefully, put an end to all the hurtful and wrong stereotyping of the LGBT community. Chi Upsilon Sigma hopes that this will ignite the spark in creating a safe and comfortable environment for LGBT students at Kean University.

“I believe it is important to bring awareness on social topics that we sometimes tend to forget about,” said Whitney Wanton, sister of Chi Upsilon Sigma.
