Wenzhou-Kean University has yet again molded a student to become successful in their future endeavors. Wenzhou-Kean is known for the joint relationship between China and America in order to establish a higher education for its students.

Shian Zhu is a Wenzhou-Kean alumnus who is attending Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts studying international economics and finance.

Zhu was nostalgic when thinking about his classmates and the environment Wenzhou-Kean University provided.

“The favorite memory that I might have had was about my first class at Wenzhou-Kean, it was the first time I was able to immerse myself into an all-English environment,” he said. At Wenzhou-Kean University all courses are taught in English and the students are challenged to speak in English, think in English and dream in English.

Zhu explained that as a college student there are so many opportunities and activities to explore and that learning new things has helped him. If he could go back to be more active, he would.

“What I miss the most about Wenzhou-Kean was all of the interesting things I could do and the opportunities I had,” Zhu said. “When I was there I had a lot of abundant free time to spend on activities and clubs.”

Going into any new environment can help a person develop into a more knowledgeable and better version of themselves. Being a part of the American culture opened Zhu’s eyes to be able to communicate and try new adventures.

“The whole American educational system cultivated my global vision and gave me understanding over the global market,” Zhu said. “I was able to understand so much more about American culture.”

The graduate program teaches technical skills, provides international experience and engages its students to tackle real life challenges in the financial markets. Zhu understands that this program at Brandeis University will help him to expand his knowledge in the financial fields.

“Brandeis University has the Master’s of Arts in International Economics and Finance (MAief) program, which tailors to my academic needs. Brandeis is based in Boston, which is one of the financial centers in the United States,” he explained.

Zhu is grateful for the opportunities that Wenzhou-Kean has given him to prepare and propel him to work harder for his future. Wenzhou-Kean University also gave him the courage to go out of his comfort zone to try new challenges like the MAief program in which he is striving to complete.

“MAief is a very cool program, which has many resources; it is a two-year program [that] can prepare me better for my future career,” he continued. “I’d like to finish my Master’s degree first and then want to do investment banking. I also hope to pursue a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) in the future.”

Like many of the other Wenzhou-Kean University students who graduated in May 2016, Zhu cannot believe that his time at graduate school is almost over. Zhu will be finished with his studies at Brandeis University in May 2018.
