These ten D.I.Y Costume ideas for Halloween are simple and affordable for any student under time constraints!

Halloween is right around the corner, and for some people who have not actively prepared for the holiday, finding a costume idea can be difficult. College students, especially, may have a tougher time in creating a costume due to time and cost constraints. However, this creative holiday is not a loss for all. With some time and effort, these 10 costume ideas can come to life!

  1. The Mummy! - This idea is pretty easy. All that is needed are about five rolls of toilet paper and some scotch tape to keep the wraps in place. To make the costume, trick-or-treaters must wrap the toilet paper around their entire body, including their arms, legs, torso and head. The eyes should not be covered. Then, tape should be applied to the endings of the wrapping on each leg.
  2. The Black Cat! - Another simple idea for the spooky holiday, the black cat costume requires some effort to make. Using black clothing, face paint and some ears made out of construction paper or cardboard, the costume can make anyone feel as though they are prowling the streets of the night in their feline attire. To make this costume, simply cut out the cardboard or construction paper into two triangles to act as ears, while coloring them black. This can be taped to a hat or headband. Face paint should then be applied to make whiskers and a nose!
  3. The Lifeguard! - Though summer ended two months ago, relive the warm air and cool waters with this creative and funny costume. Potential protectors of the pool should get some white face paint or makeup to color their noses. Additionally, those that have white t-shirts laying around can draw a red cross and write "Lifeguard" on the shirt to make it look as if they are there to make a quick poolside rescue! Sunglasses, bathing suits and flip flops are optional.
  4. The Athlete! - Feeling sporty? Those interested can become a professional athlete for a day by dressing in their favorite sports jersey! Also, costume makers can add black paint under their eyes to make them look as if they are on the field!
  5. The Instagram Costume! - If Halloween-goers want to raise their follower count on         social media, this idea is for them! To make the costume, creators only need a long piece of cardboard and some crayons, markers or paint to finish the design. With a pair of scissors, a large square in the middle of the cardboard should be cut out for the frame of the Instagram picture. Then, creators only need to make the social media's page design on the cardboard, with their personal account name at the top of the painting and a red heart to signify the many "likes" their picture gets!
  6. The Starbucks Cup! - This design is slightly more difficult to make, but if pulled off, it would be a funny take on the popular coffee brand. To make it, simply grab a white t-shirt and recreate a white Starbucks cup's depiction, with the cup's size and the creator's name, which can either be purposely misspelled or scribbled out multiple times, as baristas at the popular coffee shop can make mistakes of spelling names every now and then.
  7. The Ninja! - For those who wish to tap into their stealthy side, this simple costume, composed of a black bandanna or mask used as a mask to cover the nose and mouth, as well as an all black attire and a black hoodie, will make anyone look like a martial arts master flying through the night.
  8. The "Artist"! - Photographers and painters rejoice! Students that have paintbrushes lying around can use them to their advantage on the October 31st by simply wearing an inexpensive white jacket, while covering it with paint strokes to create the aesthetic of an artist in their artistic environment. The paintbrush can also be carried around to sell the image of a painter.
  9. The Skeleton! - A costume design that is a bit more difficult to create, the skeleton costume needs the utmost details to replicate the human bone structure. Those willing to be the haunted bones for Halloween can find black clothing and with white paint, they can make the bone design. This will include the ribs, legs, arms and spine. Face paint for the skull is also a good addition to the costume.

10. The College Student! - If all else fails, students can just be themselves! The college
student costume is perfect for any Halloween celebrator, as it requires little to no effort to
create. A backpack filled with books and Kean apparel, such as a school hoodie or a pair
of Kean sweatpants will complete the look!

Hopefully, these ten ideas will inspire anyone to get creative and make the best costume possible, even if they are under a tight budget or are constrained by the time until the holiday!
