Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Student Organization presents its annual Foodbank Luncheon to be held in the Cougar's Den in the Miron Student Center. This event helps to raise awareness for hunger and homelessness.

Join Student Organization as they present this event to help raise awareness and funds for the hungry citizens of New Jersey and those who struggle with food security every day. This luncheon will be an all-you-can-eat buffet and all proceeds will go directly to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey.

Many of the events happening during November are dedicated to or focused around hunger and homelessness because Nov. 10 through 18 is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week. It is during this time that the community honors those who are not food secure and/or do not have secure homes. November begins the holiday season as a time when people reflect on what they are thankful for and what they can cherish in their lives. When thinking about what they have, people also look to help those who have less.

"Everything we raise from this event will go toward helping the Community Foodbank of New Jersey. We are having a guest speaker from the Community Foodbank to talk about hunger statistics and surprising facts people don't know about hunger," said Genesis Cintron, assistant coordinator for Traditions, Community and Life Skills (TCLS) under P.U.L.S.E. in the Office of Student Government.

This annual event sheds light on awareness of hunger and homelessness, a topic that is often not talked about by those affected. The goal for the event is to raise money for the Foodbank of New Jersey, with the local location being in Hillside, New Jersey.

Student Organization is hosting this event. Student Organization prides itself on serving as the voice of the students of Kean University. They listen and utilize student voices for activities and maintaining a healthy environment on campus. Student Organization funded this event and many others on campus. In fact, many of the activities offered are coordinated with their funding including the bus trips, stress relievers and movie nights.

Every $1 donated at this event is equivalent to $10 worth of food and all proceeds go to help feed the hungry. Tickets can be purchased at Wilkins Theatre or at the door of the event and are $5 for Kean students and $10 for faculty and staff. The tickets are being sold not to make profit, but to further donate to the Community Foodbank of New Jersey.
