On Thursday, February 16, 2012, the Pan African Student Union (P.A.S.U.) held their annual Black Love Affair. The purpose of the Black Love Affair is to promote unity within the Pan African community and Kean University campus. Ayannah

P.A.S.U spends a vast amount of time planning for the Black Love Affair. They have to start their planning in the summer. "Without Student Organization, we could not have done any of this," Johnson stated. In the future, P.A.S.U plans to continue to work hard and make a significant impact on the Kean community. They hope to stress the importance of community service, love, and unity -- especially in the Pan-African community.

Entering the event, one could barely recognize Down's Hall; for the decoration suited the themes of Valentine's Day and African culture. Guests arrived in elegant, beautiful clothing, walking on a luxurious red carpet, and having their photo taken. A DJ played smooth tunes as the guests mingled, enjoyed various appetizers and mocktails

"I heard last year was really good, and this year sounded like it would be better," said Alexis Terrell, sophomore art education major. Sarah Williams, sophomore biology major, agreed, stating, "It is a good cultural experience, and a time to get together [to], talk, eat, and dance".

As the guests made their way into the main room, the sounds of drums echoed throughout the spacious room. Each table was decorated with red and black place settings and featured a center piece relating to African culture. The crowd was treated to a performance from the Zawadi

"We made a promise to definitely come this year. Students talked about how this was one of the best events at Kean. We wanted to support the students for all their effort," said Janice Murray-LauryLaury

The night was filled with performances by students -- singers, dancers, and poets. Doreen Brandon, a junior psychology and elementary education major, was excited to be performing as a part of the Kean Dance TheatreKDTRafieuDeen-Cole
