Raise Those Sails

The Odyssey debuts at Kean University

Kathryn Jackson

Once upon a time there was a brave soldier named Odysseus. He ventured out to battle in the Trojan War, but it took eighteen years for him to return home. Students can view this journey filled with unexpected twists this February and early March. The Odyssey, the most read poem ever, has been adapted to fit the Kean stage -- drawing the interest of play goers across the tri-state.

In this captivating story, a man risks his life to return to his family and home. During his perilous journey, Odysseus faces many cruel beasts and immortals such as the Cyclops, the Lotus-Eaters, and Calypso the nymph. With the guidance of the goddess Athena, Odysseus fights the creatures to return home to his wife and son. However, they are many gods that attempt to thwart Odysseus' success.
