The vibration of harmony, tempo, melody, and rhythm can easily be defined as beauty knocking down the wall to one's earlobes. Music finds itself healing the soul for few, occupied secret lover to some, and a life-time partner for others. The adoration for melodic tones tends to swipe human beings off their feet into striving for a world revolved around music. For Bruce A. De La Cruz, sophomore music education major, and Catherine Sabogal

De la Cruz did not automatically hear his calling for music. The 22 year old North Brunswick native's life revolved around music because of his father's love for it, even though he could only play a few notes on the guitar. During his high school days, De La Cruz spontaneously took a music theory course which he states had "opened [his eyes] to this entirely new world and I have been in love with music ever since." He explained that he began learning to play music at a very late stage of his life; nevertheless De La Cruz did not let that phase his initial decision to convert music from a hobby into a career.

In order to prepare himself for future auditions, he decided to take courses for two years at Middlesex County College.  During his pre-college days, De La Cruz recalls having an interest in criminal justice because of his favorite crime shows such as CSI, Law & Order, and Criminal Minds. But his love for music was much more overpowering, and De La Cruz eventually was able to transfer to Kean University, where he continued to learn and experience music. De La Cruz recalls much of his major accomplishments since he discovered his affection for music. One of his most important and highlighted accomplishments was becoming an official music major. "I was told by a lot of people that I had started too late in the game and that I most likely won't be able to achieve this goal," states De La Cruz. "So the day I was accepted into Kean was definitely a great accomplishment for myself. I love this department more than anything and support it immensely." Among his other accomplishments was given the opportunity to musically direct Stephen Sondheim'sTheatreParlin

When asked what his future had in store for him, De La Cruz explained that graduation is an accomplishment he is striving for. He longs to wave adue to Kean University with his bachelor's in music education in hand. Graduate school is in full view in De La Cruz's vision, preferably a New York university where he will be able to expand his horizons. "My only purpose is to be the best and most competent musician I can be," De La Cruz explains with much confidence. "To continue making music and sharing it with others -- whether it is through teaching kids at a school or in a professional setting -- I will always have that part of me." Although he has his own individual taste in music, both De La Cruz and Sabogal
