Campus Alert

Creating a safe environment for the Kean University community

Campus Alert
Stephanie Martinez

One of the main goals of Kean University is to form a safe environment for its students; creating a secure atmosphere for all who pass the outer gates. To aid with that goal, Kean University has purchased Campus Alert.

Campus Alert works aside the Kean communication infrastructure for sharing priority first information with the student body. The system gives the university a one way communication line to its students, faculty, and staff all at once in order to relay urgent messages. Campus Alert is free of charge to all students, faculty, and staff and conforms to everyone's preferred method of communication such as telephone calls, text messages, or emails. The system uses each of these options separately or simultaneously, depending on the students' preference.

The system will notify the University community of the following announcements and/or emergencies:

  • Emergency Campus Events - Alert to students and staff of security-related incidents, utility shutdowns, weather related closures, events, and advisors as events unfold.
  • Information Technology Notification - Provide maximum warning for service disruption and recovery.
  • First Responder Mobilization - Alerts to campus security, police, fire, and emergency services automatically.

In order to register for Campus Alert please go to www.mir3.com/Kean/. Click on "Create Account" and type in the student issued Kean University E-mail address. A temporary password will then be emailed. Once received, please follow the instructions to complete the registration.

For residential students, it is mandatory to apply for Campus Alert. For students who commute to campus, the system is optional, but strongly recommended.  If there are any questions please feel free to visit the Campus Alert page at www.kean.edu/KU/Campus-Alert.
