The Importance Of Being Advised

Students’ advisors help guide them in the right direction for classes

The Importance Of Being Advised

Registering for courses can be one of the most exciting parts of the semester. Deciding which classes to take and finding the most interesting ones can really make students enthusiastic toward furthering their education. With this said, it is important that they are registering for the appropriate classes for their major, rather than exclusively electives that interest them. Special electives are great ways for students to learn about different aspects of the world, but it is also important to stay on track in order to graduate on time. The best way for students to go about doing this is for them to meet with their advisors.

Students' advisors are able to guide them in the right direction in terms of what courses would be the best ones to take. When students meet with their advisors, their advisors are able to connect with them on a personal basis and understand their needs and desires as a student. If a student is overwhelmed one semester, his or her advisor will be able to guide them in a direction that will be less stressful for the following semester. Without students' advisors, students may not be aware of what classes are more difficult than others, or even what classes are necessary for their majors. Advisors play a crucial role in ensuring that their students will graduate on time.

These factors contribute to the reason why students are unable to register for classes before having an advisement meeting. It is not required that students adhere to their advisors' suggestions, however it is still mandatory that they take them into consideration. Kean's advisors have a great deal of experience with students in their respective departments, so they know what students have done in the past. They comprehend the most common mistakes and they know what students need to do in order to graduate on time; meet with an advisor today to formulate a plan for graduation.
