On Monday, December 8, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. the center for leadership and service [CLS] will be hosting their Event Lottery Meeting in the University Center [UC] room 228. Organizations that are looking to schedule dates in Downs Hall for parties and other social events—events such as the Kean Dance Marathon [KDM], fashion shows, etc.—should attend this meeting.

Any groups or organizations that are interested in having events in Downs Hall for the upcoming semester need to have an executive board member present at the Event Lottery Meeting. “The event lottery is huge! This is the event that lets the organizations know they are around…This helps them get to the next level and push themselves to become bigger.” Gerard Smithwrick, student organization president, explained.

Kean University uses a lottery system to help schedule dates for organizations in Downs Hall. At the Event Lottery Meeting, all of the organizations in attendance will have their names placed in a container, and one by one the names will be drawn. The first organization’s name that is drawn will receive preference as to which date they would like to reserve for their event at Downs Hall, and so on. Student groups will only be permitted to schedule one date per semester.

It is important that before attending the Event Lottery Meeting, non-funded groups must meet with Jennifer Weingart, Greek organizations must meet with Alex Louis, and funded groups must meet with Stephaine Faser.

If a student group must cancel an event, a cancellation form must be completed and submitted at least five business days prior to the event. Groups will be responsible for all costs and fees associated with the event if they do not submit the cancellation form on time.

Attendance is mandatory prior to the scheduled event; failure to attend the meeting will result in a loss of that event. Smithwrick encourages all organizations big or small to attend the Event Lottery Meeting. “The Event Lottery is mandatory. Other than training, this is the event all organizations should attend.”
