Students, staff, and faculty, be prepared for a new change to the campus of Kean University. The University Center (UC) is one of the most used facilities on campus today. It is a place where all can go eat lunch, breakfast, and dinner in the café at the Cougar’s Den, play billiards in the Game Room, or get work done in the computer lab. The UC is practically home to an entertainment center for all! However, soon enough the UC will not be called the UC anymore. Sometime in the near future, the UC will be known as the Miron Student Center.

Alumna Diane Goldblatt Miron, who graduated in 1961, and her husband Bob Miron are giving a generous donation to Kean University. A large portion of the donation will be used to renovate the UC and give it a fresher look, while another portion of the donation will be used to attract new donors to Kean University.

President Dawood Farahi comments that “everyone comes [to the UC] to eat, study, work, attend events, and socialize, [leading to] forming valuable connections in a way that happens at virtually no other location on campus. So we are absolutely delighted that Diane and Bob chose this unique campus facility as the beneficiary of their very generous gift, and we also celebrate their interest in having a portion of their gift serve as an incentive to attract potential new donors to Kean.”

Mrs. Miron grew up in Elizabeth, New Jersey and graduated from Kean University when it was formally known as Newark State College. She obtained a degree in elementary education and taught fourth grade for decades.  After retiring from teaching, she began advising teachers on how to use technology in their classrooms, and she served at the NewChannels Corporation and Time Warner Cable as the cable in the classroom coordinator in over a 100 of schools located in upstate New York. Mr. Miron, who is now retired, worked in the broadcasting and cable television industry for 50 years.

“Kean University is where it all started for me,” comments Mrs. Miron, “and Bob and I are very happy to be able to give something back to this wonderful institution that benefits such a wide range of its people.”  Mrs. Miron also stated that she and her husband “wanted to do something that would be helpful to the students.”  Mrs. Miron further explains her reason for the donation by saying that “the majority of the students are commuters, just like I was more than 50 years ago, and it is very important to have high quality, comfortable facilities on campus to help them feel at home and reach their highest potential.”

The community of Kean University would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Miron for their generous donation, a donation that will be remembered for many years to come.
