Wenzhou-Kean University had its first graduating class last year in May 2016, and Haotian Hu is one of the students of that first graduating class. Hu is currently a graduate student studying forensic science at Kean University on the Union campus. When recalling her time at Wenzhou-Kean University, she was able to recall many fond memories.

Among these many memories for Hu was the Wenzhou-Kean University Game Festival. This was one of Hu’s most enjoyable and happy experiences for her and her roommates – they were able to capture the first place prize. When describing the Game Festival, Hu compared it to a large competition with many different sports being played, but centered around video games.

College goes by quickly and the four years that a student develops can finish in the blink of an eye. It is only normal to reflect on the moments that will be missed.

For Hu, that is her classmates. “I miss my classmates,” said Hu. Like many classes on the Union campus, class size at Wenzhou-Kean is also small. “We were in the same major and we knew each other,” she explained as she described the bonds that were built over the four years.

Hu explained all of the influences she had at Wenzhou-Kean University that prepared her for her future now that she is in the Nathan Weiss Graduate College at Kean University.

“Dr. John Prince, a professor of law and philosophy at Wenzhou-Kean University, helped me a lot when I wanted to apply for the psychology program,” she said. As a finance major, Hu wanted to make the switch to psychology and after researching psychology graduate programs, she ultimately selected to continue her education at Kean University.

Hu has two more semesters to finish before graduating with her Master’s degree in May 2018 and heading into a new chapter in her life.

“I think a master’s degree is just the beginning of my education. I want to learn so much about psychology,” says Hu.

Forensic psychologists specialize in applying psychological knowledge to legal matters both in criminal and civil cases. Hu’s interest in forensic psychology began when she took an introduction to forensic psychology class during her first semester as an undergraduate student. “I found it quite interesting and wanted to continue,” says Hu.

That was all it took for her career goal to be made. When she completes her Master’s degree in forensic psychology next year, Hu looks to enter a doctoral program in clinical psychology. She has not narrowed down exactly what her career path will be, but she knows it will be in the field of psychology and was sparked by her introductory forensic psychology course she took at Wenzhou-Kean during her first semester.
