Exploring Countries through EPCOT at Kean!

The Kean P.U.L.S.E. Programming Board welcomed students back for the Spring semester with a fun and exciting Epcot at Kean event. On Monday, January 13 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., students had the chance to explore different buildings of the Kean campus while enjoying delicious refreshments.

Microsoft 365 Migration

On Tuesday, November 26 the Student Government Association of Kean University along with the Office of Student Government and the Graduate Student Government of Kean University hosted the Microsoft 365 Migration. This event was held in the Cougar’s Den from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Students had the opportunity to share their concerns and learn more about the movement from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365.

Freshman Class Elections: Class of 2028

The Student Government Association (SGA) holds a vital position in Kean University as the governing department of the student body. These individuals are chosen by their peers, who entrust them to act in the best interest of their class. During the Fall 2024 semester, the Class of 2028 held their first class board elections to elect the freshman officers. These students have the opportunity to represent the undergraduate body and create an environment that reflects the pillars of Kean University.

The SGA class of 2027 is ready to represent Kean university

The Office of Student Government is a pivotal office that helps shape and develop students into strong leaders through various opportunities. The Student Government Association (SGA) embodies elected student leaders who represent and are the voice of the Kean University undergraduate community. This semester, SGA hosted elections for the Freshman Class Board for the new students entering the Class of 2027.

The Haitian community put on a show at the Kreyol Fest

On Thursday, November 30, the Haitian Student Association hosted the annual Kreyol Fest at Downs Hall from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 pm, as the fest would be full of Haitian culture with food, dances, cultural lessons, etc. Everybody was welcomed to the event as tickets were free for students and they were able to bring up to 3 guests.

Comida Deliciosa!

Hispanic Heritage Month highlights the traditions and history of the Hispanic culture and people. One popular topic of Hispanic Heritage Month is the delicious food. According to Study.com, there are many ingredients important in the dishes such as avocados, beans, limes, onions, rice, tortillas, and garlic. Besides the flavorful ingredients, family is another important aspect of the Hispanic culture. Recipes are handed down from each generation including dishes that were cooked over an open fire, steamed, or fried. Family members learn how to make dishes from scratch and keep the beautiful traditions of their culture. According to WebstaurantStore,  some popular and cultural Hispanic foods include Tortilla Espanola, Empanadas, Tajadas, Ceviche, Churros, Tacos, Flan and, Tres Leches Cake. These foods are connected to Hispanic countries such as Argentina, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Mexico, and Ecuador. Although these dishes are common among Hispanic cultures, each culture puts its own spin on each dish. For instance, flan is a custard that is common in the Hispanic culture. However, Mexican flan is covered in caramel syrup while Spanish flan has a layer of scorched sugar on the bottom.

Overlooked Hispanic Figures

Hispanic Heritage Month started September 15th and ends October 15th. During Hispanic Heritage Month, we take time to acknowledge Hispanic culture and the great achievements and successes of popular Hispanic figures. Famous Hispanic figures often include talented vocalists like Selena Quintanilla or Shakira, famous political individuals such as Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, or amazing painters like Pablo Picasso. These influential figures have helped pave the way for the Hispanic Community and shine a positive light on Hispanic culture.
