Feneis Keys Kean Win Over Raiders

NEWARK, N.J. (4/5/07) - Junior righthander Colin Feneis (Spotswood, N.J.) moved from the bullpen into a starting role flawlessly as Kean downed Rutgers-Newark, 10-3, in New Jersey Athletic Conference action at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium. The Cougars (14-3, NJAC 3-1) collected 16 hits against four Scarlet Raider pitchers in support of Feneis, who had made four relief appearances this spring, totaling five and a third innings of work. Rutgers-Newark slipped to 5-17 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC.

Feneis went eight full innings, yielding eight hits while striking out five and walking two to improve to 2-0 on the year.
Junior leftfielder Eric Ammirata (Hamilton, N.J.) and senior shortstop Perry Schatzow (Ocean Township, N.J.) each went three for five to pace the Cougar attack.

Junior catcher Derek Gianakas (Edison, N.J.), who went two for four, ripped an RBI triple to straightaway centerfield to ignite a 6-0 rally in the seventh which boosted the Kean lead to 9-1. Ammirata added a two-run single to cap the outburst. Sophomore designated hitter Mike Shymanski (Edison, N.J.) went two for four with a two-run single in the third and an RBI single in the seventh.

Senior first baseman Bill Mercurio (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) roped a pair of doubles for the Raiders who also got a solo home run by freshman designated hitter Anthony Yeswita (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) in the third and an RBI double by junior catcher Dan Zika (Kenilworth, N.J.) in the eighth. Junior leftfielder Doug Ford (Neptune, N.J.) and Mercurio were the only Raiders to get two hits.
