Baseball Honored with Joint Resolution

TRENTON, N.J. - Still basking the glow of their NCAA Division III Baseball National Championship, the Kean University baseball team and members of the University and athletic department administration were in Trenton on June 18, as the Cougars were honored by the Senate and General Assembly of New Jersey. A Joint Resolution commended the Cougars, head coach Neil Ioviero and his staff for "their exceptional efforts and competitive spirit as evidenced by their championship accomplishments" on their way to a school-best 43-8 season and the program's first-ever national title.

Kean President Dawood Farahi accompanied the baseball team to Trenton, along with Robert Cole, vice president for University Relations, William DeGarcia, special assistant to the president, Glenn Hedden, director of athletics, Jack McKiernan, associate director of athletics, Karyn Pinter, sports information director, Kim DeRitter, assistant sports information director, and Letizia Ioviero, Ioviero's wife.

The Cougars defeated Emory University by a score of 5-4 in 10 innings in the final of the NCAA Division III Championships in Grand Chute, Wis., on May 29.

The Rutgers University women's basketball team and head coach C. Vivian Stringer were also lauded for their postseason success as well.
