Track and Field Has Strong Showing at Frank Colden Invitational

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. (02/02/08) - The Kean University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the Frank Colden Invitational at Ursinus College on Saturday afternoon. The women's team placed seventh overall with 30 points, while the men finished ninth with 26 points. Heading the women's top-10 finishers, junior Erin Jones (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) placed second in the pole vault with a leap of 2.75 meters. In the shot put, sophomore Jan Bush (Willow Grove, Pa.) finished fourth (33-8) and junior Sarah Lyon (Clymer, N.Y.) placed eighth (30-8.75)

Freshman Jamie Grenger (Hazlet, N.J.) and junior Demeka Pressley (Trenton, N.J.) each had a pair of top-10 finishes in the long jump and 200-meter dash. Grenger (pictured right) was fifth in the 200 (28.42) and seventh in the long jump (4.60 meters), while Pressley placed seventh in the 200-meter dash (28.54) and eighth in the long jump (4.53 meters). Freshman Asha Winters (Ewing, N.J.) added a 10th-place finish in the 200-meters (28.86).

In the relays, the women's 4x200 meter squad placed fourth in 1:54.67, while the 4x400 meter relay team was seventh in 4:45.75.

Freshman John Badala (Scotch Plains, N.J.) and junior Jason Staggers (Jackson, N.J.) had the highest individual finishes, each earning a second-place finish. Badala (pictured left) was second in the shot put (44-2.5), while Staggers placed second in the long jump (6.67 meters), also qualifying him for the ECAC Championships.

Junior Dwayne Dobbins (Mount Holly, N.J.) placed fourth in the 1000-meter run (2:43.22), while freshman Brian Vanderstad (Pompton Lakes, N.J.) finished seventh in the shot put (41-6).

Rookie Marques Wallace (Vauxhall, N.J.) had a pair of top-10 finishes, placing eighth in the 55-meter dash (6.79) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (23.80). Freshman Matt Gough rounded out the top-10 finishers for the Cougars with a 10-place showing in the 400-meter dash (54.90). The men's 800-meter relay squad also placed sixth in a time of 1:36.07.

The Cougars return to action on Saturday, February 9, when they travel to New Haven, Conn., for the CTC Championships hosted by Yale University.
