Putting Creativity to the Test

Nancy Thompson Library sponsors video contest

Garieka Godfrey

In an effort to raise awareness about the services that the Nancy Thompson Library offers to Kean students, the library is sponsoring a video contest. Students will have the opportunity to make a video no longer than three minutes, expressing what they love about the library and how the services and resources have been helpful to them. The winner will receive a $300 gift card for use at the campus bookstore.

This contest is open to all current Kean students. All videos must be received by Friday, April 20, 2012 before 5 p.m. Participants must give consent to have their names and videos used for promotional purposes and comply with the following rules:

Video requirements:

Submissions should be based on what students love about the library and how it has helped them.

Videos must mainly feature a picture of the library or the URL for the library's main page -- library.kean.edu.

Videos must be a maximum of 3 minutes in length. In accordance with YouTube community guidelines, videos must be in one of the following formats: AVIMOVWMV100MBbitratenarrations

Videos must be appropriate for all audiences and must not include any offensive material.

Originality and rights:

Students must be the original authors of everything that is used in the video or have permission to use copyright protected material. Videos with musical, visual or other material without legal permission are ineligible.

Permission:

Video submission gives the Nancy Thompson Library permission to use the name, video and/or image of a participant for future promotional purposes. Participants are also required to obtain written permission from all identifiable individuals whose name, image, or voice appears in their videos. This information should be available should the library request it. Students may find a sample release PDF on the library's website.

Submissions:

Submissions must be received before 5 p.m. eastern daylight time on April 20, 2012. Though group submissions are welcome, please be advised that only one prize will be awarded.

Entry is a two part process and is not final until a participant receives an e-mail confirmation from the library. The first step requires students to submit their video to their YouTube account. Please note that while YouTube has no connection with the Nancy Thompson Library or the contest, participants must comply with all terms, conditions and registration requirements of YouTube. In the second step, YouTube will provide students with a link to their videos after they have been approved for viewing. Students must then email the link to lurodrig@kean.edu along with their name, Kean University ID number, contact information, and the title of their video.

Students are encouraged to be creative as long the content of their video is suitable for all audiences.
