Kean University observes National Volunteer Week

Garieka Godfrey

Kean University -- having been named to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the third consecutive year - will celebrate National Volunteer Week on Monday, April 16, 2012. The President's Honor Roll acknowledges outstanding community service and is the highest federal recognition that any college or university may receive. During this week, the center for leadership and service will offer students several volunteer activities. For a list of volunteer opportunities that will be available during this week, please visit https://kean.collegiatelink.net/events. Additionally, the office will host a celebration of service banquet on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

The banquet will recognize those Kean students who have engaged in service for a significant number of hours. These hours are determined by approved hours that have been recorded on CougarLink

Additionally, the office will recognize student groups and organizations that have organized and participated in community and volunteer service projects that have had positive impacts on the community and the campus and have offered co-curricular learning experiences to Kean students. To nominate a student group project for the 2011-2012 year, a representative of the organization must complete a nomination form on Cougar Link at https://kean.collegiatelink.net/form/start/9046. The student's log in information is the same as their KeanGoogle

The group award will be based on the scale of the project, its impact on the community, and potential co-curricular learning for participants. One project will be named group service project of the year, and that organization will receive up to $500 for apparel or promotional items from the center for leadership and service. Two other service projects will be selected as honorary mentions. All funded groups, recognized non-funded groups, and honor societies in good standing are eligible to apply for group service project of the year. An organization may nominate multiple service projects. The deadline for submission of nominations is Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at 2 p.m.
