The Cougar Climb path is a program that provides a structured guide to university involvement for first-year Kean students. Students fulfill badges by participating in various on-campus experiences, with prizes awarded to those who successfully complete it. This year, for the very first time, the initiative includes upperclassmen in their own badge-fulfilling quests to allow students to continue their journey in making the most of their time on campus.

Hispanic Heritage Month is a yearly 30-day celebration honoring the cultures and contributions of Americans tracing their roots to 21 Hispanic countries. It is held every year from September 15 to October 15, coinciding with the Independence Days of several Latin American countries.

Kean University’s annual Kean Day brought dozens of student organizations, university departments and campus resources together on Friday, Sept. 11, giving students a chance to explore opportunities outside the classroom along Cougar Walk. From noon to 4 p.m., tables stretched from the Miron Student Center Plaza down Cougar Walk toward Harwood Arena, with organizations, departments and community partners introducing students to what Kean has to offer.

On Sept. 8, Reines Plaza filled with music, food, student organizations and university resources as Kean University brought its annual Kean Day tradition to the Jersey City campus for the first time. From 1 to 3 pm, students explored campus organizations, academic programs and support services while meeting other members of the Kean Jersey City community amidst music and dancing, free food, and a photo booth.

On the morning of Thursday, August 27, Kean University faculty, staff, students, and community members filed into the campus in anticipation of the annual President’s Opening Day Address. They filled every row of Wilkins Theater, hundreds settling in as they listened to jazz music ahead of the speech.

The Kean campus continued its annual Unity Week celebrations through Tuesday, April 7 and Wednesday, April 8, bringing an evening game show and afternoon salsa dances to students, and capped it off on Friday, April 10, with card games from several cultures.

Every year, the Kean community takes two weeks to honor the establishment of our institution and the students who keep it going. During the Fall, there’s the bliss of homecoming, full of tailgating, football games, and iconic performers taking on the Wilkins Theatre. However, there’s nothing like that one week in April, where students come together to celebrate the founding of our University, Unity Week.

On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, The Galleries at Kean hosted Jaymes Jorsling to showcase “Hub City,” a multidisciplinary project highlighting America’s racial traumas, as part of its Transcending Boundaries art program. The Human Rights Institute and Holocaust Resource Center introduced Jorsling, a local artist, playwright and actor, to discuss his works and perspective on the power of art.

On Tuesday, December 9, Kean University’s Holocaust Resource Center and Human Rights Institute hosted a Genocide Prevention and Awareness Day tabling event, transforming the Miron Student Center Atrium into a space for reflection, learning, and community engagement. The event honored the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide, observed annually on December 9, the same date the United Nations adopted the Genocide Convention in 1948.

On Monday, November 10, members of the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) gathered in the Miron Student Center Hub for their Boxes of Gratitude tabling. Students were able to customize hygiene boxes with essential items and uplifting handwritten messages of appreciation in honor of Veterans Day. Aliyah Hutchins, the President of the NCNW and a Senior majoring in Sports Management with a minor in Athletic Coaching from East Orange, NJ, explained the motivation behind hosting this event.

On Tuesday, November 18, Kean University Student Government Association (SGA) hosted the Annual Food Bank Luncheon, collecting canned goods and basic care items to support the Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ) and Cougar Pantry. Kean’s undergraduate and graduate students can shop at the Cougar Pantry, located in Down Hall, which provides perishable and non-perishable goods.
