Some Leftovers To Think About

Every November, as a part of Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) hosts events called Food for Thought designed to give students an opportunity to learn and serve people in the community with food insecurity. Two of these events took place during Homelessness Awareness Week on Nov. 14 and Nov. 16.

As people travel home to the embraces of their family this Thanksgiving, others must brace the cold and pangs of hunger. In the face of holiday excitement and cheer, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) on behalf of the University, humbled the Kean community by bringing attention to the millions of homeless people through their Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Hunger and Veterans: A Conversation About Food Insecurity

The Lesniak Institute's Let's Clear The Air Symposium!

In a joint-effort with Kean Earth Science Club, New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability (NJHEPS), and Kean School of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (SESS), the Lesniak Institute for American Leadership hosted the second annual "Let's Clear The Air: A Student-Led Symposium"  Wednesday, Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. to help promote environmental advocacy in New Jersey.

Baba Neil Clarke Comes to Kean

Gift Cards for Good Grades

President Dawood Farahi has pledged to award any first semester Kean student who came in with a freshman merit scholarship and earns a 4.0 GPA. This award will take the form of a $100 gift card to Ursino Steakhouse and Tavern, located in the STEM building.

Spreading a Sense of Community on Campus

On Nov. 13, students across Kean University's campus celebrated World Kindness Day and Community Values Day. This allowed students to appreciate all acts of kindness, no matter how big or small. Students were also able to become educated about the resources on campus that they can utilize to their advantage. Organizations such as the Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs Task Force (AToD) and the Commuter Resource Center (CRC) held events to help students celebrate this joyous day.

Showcasing Latin Culture

The Latin American Student Organization (LASO), formerly known as the Association of the Latin American Students (ALAS), is making its way through Kean University. Just like many other cultural clubs on campus, LASO seeks to provide awareness and knowledge of the Latin culture to the students willing to learn.

Know and Show Your Ribbon

This past Monday, Nov. 12, Helping Younger Hands held an event called Know Your Ribbon, which focused on educating students on different awareness ribbons. Participants were then able to design their own ribbon for themselves about subjects that are most important to them.

Discovering Who Owns French Jewish History

On Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the STEM Building, the Holocaust Resource Center will host a new lecture in the Murray Pantier Memorial Scholar Lecture Series discussing French Jewish history. "Who Owns French Jewish History? The Strange Story of Zosa Szajkowski, Archive Salvager, Historian and Thief" is a presentation by Professor Lisa Moses Leff, author and acting director of academic affairs and senior vice provost at American University.

The Lesniak Institute for American Leadership, Kean University Earth Science Club, Kean School of Environmental and Sustainability Sciences (SESS) and New Jersey Higher Education Partnership for Sustainability will be hosting Let’s Clear the Air: A Student-Led Symposium Wed., Nov. 14 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the STEM Building 6th Floor to raise awareness and inspire students to take action to improve NJ’s air quality.

Giving Shelter

Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit housing organization whose goal is to provide every person with a decent living space. The Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) creates service trips to assist in the efforts of the Habitat for Humanity organization by building homes for people who struggle with homelessness.

Let's Luncheon Some Awareness

On Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Student Organization at Kean University hosted the Food Bank Luncheon at the Cougar's Den in the Miron Student Center (MSC).
