There is a lot to be said about what defines the "college experience". There are the two-hour classes, cramming for exams, the "freshman 15" superstitions, the "best four years of your life," and much more. One of the biggest changes college can provide a student is living on campus. Living on a college campus provides students with a sense of freedom, responsibility, convenience, and maturity that is unique from any other academic experience. However, is it all just hype? Movies and television may make college seem like either a stress free or stressful environment. "Living on campus is cool, but it's not like Blue Mountain State or anything. It's more about just the independence. You're able to make your own decisions, even if it's just something simple," explained freshman criminal justice major, Andre Fleming. This independence can be a drastic change for freshman students who, more than likely, would be living on their own for the first time.

Spring Break -the ever so crucial week-long break away from the demands of school. Some students opt to stay at home and wallow in the comfort of their own space while others search for a getaway reminiscent of a Hollywood depiction of spring break. The only problem is, sometimes, making spring break a "true" vacation takes a lot of planning, effort, and money.

Kean University's office of financial aid will be offering workshops to give students the opportunity to complete their FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms with one-on-one assistance from Financial Aid officials. The FAFSA is an application that must be completed annually for any student that wants to use federal and/or state funds to help pay for the cost of their education. Kean University Board of Trustees' policy along with New Jersey State Law will be holding the election of one student representatives for the Kean University Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees is a governing panel of the policies of an educational institution. The elected student representatives will have a two year term on the board. The first year, each student will spend as an alternative member and then a voting member the second year. The Catholic Newman Club (NEWMAN) hosted its first segment of Tuesdays with Francis on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in the University Center (UC226ATuesdays with Francis is a mini-series discussing the teachings, writings, and messages of recently elected Pope Francis. NEWMAN also discusses the impact these messages have on the catholic faith and society as a whole. Tuesdays with Francis will be held four weeks straight, every Tuesday, until Tuesday, March 4, 2014.

As of Sunday, December 1, 2013, Kean University scholarship applications have been available online. The online application gives students the opportunity to be eligible for over 200 scholarships. Each applicant will be advocated for scholarship opportunities that correlate with their needs and interests. There are scholarship opportunities open to incoming freshman, graduate students, and everything in between-regardless of school year or major.

On Thursday, November 14, 2013 the Pan-African Student Union (PASU) alongside the West Indian Culture Club (WICC) and the Haitian Students Association (HSA), hosted International Night in room 315 of the University Center (UC). Students got to experience a variety of food, discussions, music, languages, history, and overall culture from heritages represented by each club.
