First Step of the Climb: Discovering the Pathway to Your Major

On Thursday, Oct. 17 of Advisement Weeks, the School of General Studies offered an hour of self-assessment and advice to help students at the "Discover the Pathway to Your Major" event. From 3:20 p.m. to 4:20 p.m. in the First Floor Lobby of the Center for Academic Success, students participated in surveys and asked questions that helped them target their academic and professional interests, and start down a more specified journey for study.

A Day for All Ages

It was back to school for both students and their families this past Family Day, held Saturday, Oct. 5. Kean students' families were invited for a full day of all things Kean as they toured with their loved ones to preview what a day in the life of a Kean student was like.

One Healthy Week

Monday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 4 was Health and Wellness Week at Kean University. During this week-long program, the Kean campus was treated to different events and activities that promoted mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health and provided everyone with knowledge of the resources Kean has to offer on and off campus. This all led up to the Health and Wellness Fair on Thursday, Oct. 3, which ran from 12 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Downs Hall.

"Tragedy & Tribute: Art Illuminates Ireland's Great Hunger" and the World Today

On the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 25, people gathered in the lobby of the Human Rights Institute (HRI) for the opening reception of it's newest exhibit "Tragedy & Tribute: Art Illuminates Ireland's Great Hunger." The event ran from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and created a space for people to focus on this historical event and make connections to the world today.

Professor Bowe on Women's Mental Health

A Day of Remembrance

The Kean University community honored the anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001, by holding a remembrance and moment of silence on the Miron Student Center Patio. This remembrance included speeches and readings from members of the Kean community including Susan Figueroa, managing assistant director for Community Service and Civic Engagement, Mariama Roldan, campus minister, Dawood Farahi, Ph.D., Kean University president and a few of Kean's student leaders.

Kean Day 2019

At the beginning of every Fall semester, the Miron Student Center hosts Kean Day, one of the most exciting and informational events throughout the whole semester. On Sept. 13, from 1 to 4 p.m., Cougar Walk was lined with a variety of tables representing different aspects of campus life such as clubs, Greek organizations, educational departments, honor societies, off-campus vendors and more. This was a way for new and returning students to really get a look into all of the different ways that it is possible to get involved and truly enhance their college experience here at Kean.

Did You Meet the Greeks?

At 5 p.m Wednesday, Sept. 11, the Harwood Arena was abuzz with excitement as the finishing touches were placed around the room for the night's Meet the Greeks event. An affair that takes place once each semester, Meet the Greeks is hosted by the Greek Senate, a governing body over the Greeks on campus that is also made up of members of different Greek organizations. Together they put on this fun night, where all the Greek organizations on campus got a chance to represent themselves, their values and try to bring new people into their ranks.

The Cougar Climb

The Cougar Climb is a new incentive created by Kean University to help students garner the best college experience possible. The Cougar Climb was also built to help students stay on track to graduate within four years. Incoming freshmen for this 2019-2020 school year are the first of the Kean student body to have the opportunity to utilize the Cougar Climb.

Welcoming the College of Liberal Arts Majors to the New Semester

This past Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 1:30 p.m., Wilkins Theatre was filled with all of the liberal arts majors as the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) invited them to their second annual convocation. The purpose of this event was to invite the new freshman and transfer students, as well as the returning CLA majors and get them excited for the upcoming semester. This event also allowed students and professors to get to know each other on a more personal level, as well as ensure that the students are supported by the staff from the CLA.

Kicking Off the Year Right

On Sept. 6, 2019, the first Friday of the Fall 2019 semester, Kean University kicked the school year off with the Friday Night Football Game Kickoff. A prelude to the first football game of the season, the kickoff was not only an opportunity for the Kean community to come out and support their football team, but also a way for students to get pumped for the beggining of the sports season and school year. Starting at 4 p.m. and running until 6:30 p.m. in the Harwood Arena, the event appeared to do it's job well. It was attended by many different members of the Kean community who all appeared to be having a wonderful time.

It's a Greek New Semester

At the start of each year, one of the academic buildings on campus is filled with Kean University's Greek organizations for the annual Greek Senate Conference. This year on Friday, Sept. 6, in the North Avenue Academic Building (NAAB), the Greeks went through multiple workshops designed to get them interacting with one another, to teach them how to continue to be good leaders and how to make the rest of the academic year a great one.

Making Waves

To start the semester off with a bang and celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, an event called Kean Wave transpired on the first day of classes this past Sept. 3. Kean Wave was held on the Miron Student Center (MSC) Patio from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., a great location for students to meet up with their friends they have not seen all summer. There were fun games, activities, food, giveaways and more for students to enjoy.

It's that time of the year again where Kean opens its residence halls to its newest Cougars: the Class of 2023. The Class of 2023 began their college experience by moving onto campus on Sunday, Sept. 1. With the help of the Residential Student Services (RSS) staff, the move-in process and introduction to the residence halls was seamless and full of life.

Become a Student Worker!

If there is one piece of advice for students attending Kean, it is to get involved on campus as much as one can to enhance their collegiate experience. One way for students to do this, as well as receive financial benefits, is to work on campus. There are many different offices and departments on campus that hire student workers, so there is sure to be a match for everyone.
