Although it’s seen as a vacational period, students remained focused on their educational goals as spring break typically occurs midway through the semester. For some, downtime isn’t a necessity and for others, it can feel unattainable. Students at Kean University explained what their downtime looked like and how they chose to spend their breaks in between classes.
During Black History Month, communities often highlight the Black innovators of the world. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and Harriet Tubman are some of the most mentioned figures in regard to Black history. The legacy of Black innovators is impactful and necessary, so it’s also important to bring awareness to those who don’t get as much coverage in the media or in textbooks.
Research Days are a great opportunity for students and faculty alike to spotlight their work and gain proper recognition. With this year’s celebration happening between Monday, April 24 and Wednesday, April 26, It’s important for students to know the deadlines so that they can participate in this year's celebration.
It’s officially that time when everyone is trying to start fresh and rebrand their lives for the new year. However, according to the University of Alabama at Birmingham Medicine, less than eight percent accomplish their resolutions. Despite the bad reputation, Kean students share their goals and resolutions for this year and the spring semester.
With the start of a new year, many are partaking new hobbies while accomplishing their 2023 resolutions. Some students are completing their goals by taking advantage of Kean P.U.L.S.E. 's Sleigh Big with Kean skip trip. This trip will truly give students an opportunity to learn a skill while building friendships.
Kwanzaa is a celebration of culture, tradition and community. Dr. Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 to uplift and celebrate Black Americans. In the midst of racial turbulance, Karenga wanted to create a holiday that reaffirmed the excellence of the African American community while informing them about their heritage and the contributions of their ancestors.
On December 1, students gathered at Kean Hall for the Student Town Hall meeting with Kean University President Lamont O. Repollet, Ed.D. Here, students spoke about the problems on campus and the solutions to solve them.
Finals week motivates students to effectively focus and study to pass their exams. On Friday, November 18, Delta Phi Epsilon raised money for their philanthropy, Cystic Fibrosis. To reach their goal, the sorority hosted Deepher Dude, their annual male pageant-style event.
The Vaughn-Eames Hall caters to students studying art and theater, giving them a chance to utilize their creative skills whilst expressing themselves artistically. This year, Kean has brought art to the university and it's being showcased in Vaughn-Eames Hall.
