The Kean University English Department presents its Third Annual Poetry Contest! This contest is open to all Kean students of any major and year. Any style and subject of poetry is welcome to be submitted so long as it is completely original. The winning poems will be published in the Kean Literary Journal, and the winner will receive both a cash award and an honoring at the School of English Studies Award Ceremony on April 27.

Hosted by the Leadership Institute, Kean's Got Talent is an event produced by the leaders of the Silver Leadership Program to promote charity and the talented students at Kean University. Kean's Got Talent will take place Thursday, April 5 from 7 to 10 p.m. All proceeds will be going toward the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, New Jersey.

Kean University is known for bringing awareness to many issues, one of those being breast cancer. Breast cancer is a disease in which cancer cells form in the tissues of the breast. Over one in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, which is why Kean seeks to support and fight for breast cancer.

On Sunday, March 18, the Human Rights Institute at Kean University and Senator Bob Menendez will present the Evangelina Menendez Trailblazers award in commemoration of Women's History Month. The event will take place at the Wilkin's Theater from 3 to 5 p.m.

Kean University Greek Senate won two awards from the Northeast Greek Leadership Association (NGLA) Conference in Pittsburgh. The awards won were for the Organizational Development and Membership Recruitment awards. This is the fourth consecutive year that Kean's Greek Senate has received recognition from the NGLA.

After the elections for the student alternate Board of Trustees representative role ended on Wednesday, Feb. 21, it was announced that Ashley Buchanan won the position with a majority of the popular vote. The election, which began Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. and continued throughout the day until 6 p.m. Wednesday, featured Buchanan and two other Kean students, Jose Salas and Tiffany Osoria.

From Feb. 10 to 12, seven students from Kean University had the opportunity to attend the Lemkin Summit to End Genocide and Mass Atrocities, in Washington D.C. This trip was organized by The Center for Interdisciplinary Studies and the Human Rights Institute, and it was funded by one of Kean's Quality First Initiative Grants (QFI).

How can one express love for themselves and others? Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) created the Share the Love campaign to bring awareness to self-love and love for others. As an organization, it seeks to build campaigns that have a positive effect on the Kean community and others as well.

In the midst of Black History Month at Kean University, several events have taken place to commemorate various aspects of black culture and history on campus. From events such as the flag raising ceremony that took place on the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 1, to the Ladysmith Black Mambazo performance inside of the Enlow Recital Hall on Friday, Feb. 9, the options that students, faculty and other members of the Kean community had to celebrate the historical month were abundant.
