On Thursday, Feb. 13, in the North Academic Avenue Building, Kean University presented the most recent speaker in their Distinguished Lecture Series. This month's speaker was Martin Luther King III, who spoke to the Kean community about the injustices many in the community are currently facing as well as the importance of voting and overcoming voter suppression.

The School of General Studies extended a warm welcome back to their fall Transition to Kean (T2K) students at the Valentine's Welcome Back Social. The social transpired Feb. 13 at the Cougar's Den and was a fun get-together for freshmen and their peer mentors.

On Tuesday, Feb. 11th, the Office of Student Government (Student Gov.) and the Commuter Resource Center brought African American culture to life in "Know Your Roots," at the Human Rights Institute. The event was hosted in honor of Black History Month, as well as to celebrate African American culture and diversity in the Kean community.

On Feb. 26, The Leadership Institute will be hosting an event called Chapter After: Taxes, for all Kean students that wish to learn about filing taxes. It will be held from 3:15 to 4:30 p.m. in the Greek Lounge in the Miron Student Center.

On Friday, Feb. 7, in the Burch Hall Community Center, Residential Student Services(RSS) hosted a workshop called Relationships in the Media, which was a game of bingo built around the discussion of how the media glorifies toxic relationships and what could be done to have a healthier one.

On Friday, Feb. 7, the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS) hosted a series of events in the Commuter Resource Center (CRC) joining in Wear Red Day, a national phenomenon where everyone supports the fight to raise awareness of women's heart health and the American Heart Association's battle against heart disease.

On Thursday, Feb. 6, the National Council of Negro Woman, Inc (NCNW) held a day long event entitled "For Us By Us." The event was a chance for students to come together and celebrate black culture, work on self-care and beauty, educate and uplift each other and make connections with other students and people already working in professional fields. The event started at 3 p.m. and went until 10 p.m. within the Miron Student Center (MSC) building.

February is the month to remember, discuss and celebrate black history. On Feb. 3, Kean University highlighted the start of the month's festivities with the Black History Month Kickoff, which was hosted by the Student Organization of Kean. The kickoff took place in the Miron Student Center (MSC) Atrium from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. and saw plenty of students join in the festivities and prepare for the month.

Greek Life is a great way to become more involved on campus to establish better connections at Kean like no other. Kean University is home to 15 fraternities, 15 Sororities, and 1 Co-Ed organization which have something for all interests. Students who have had the chance to successfully cross into their respected organizations have nothing but positive things to say about their entire experience as well as what to look forward to in the future.

The Outdoor Adventure and Recreation Club (OAR) is a unique student group that is offered on campus. Their goals are to get outside and get moving to see what natural wonders New Jersey and the surrounding area has to offer. In doing so, they have created an inviting and friendly environment for all current and prospective members.

Thursday, Jan. 30, was a night filled with fun, food, fraternities, sororities and new friendships in Harwood Arena as the Spring 2020 Meet the Greeks went underway. This event had entertainment, networking, and performances which blew away the entire audience who came out to enjoy. Whether or not guests were interested in joining Greek Life or not, Meet the Greeks was the place to be at.

Thursday, Jan. 30, the Study Abroad Fair returned to Kean University. Students gathered in the Center for Academic Success (CAS) to talk to different study abroad providers and learn how they could make the most of their time studying in college. The fair took place from 12:00 to 4:30 p.m.

February is American Heart Month, a time where people are encouraged to raise awareness and support for heart disease and overall heart-healthy living. On Friday, Feb. 7, Kean celebrates the National Wear Red Day, a day specifically focusing on women's heart health.
