Why do people dance? Is dance a form of expression or does it hold something more of a value? Bre’yanie Pearson, a sophomore majoring in public relations (PR), has always enjoyed dancing. She believes dancing is a great artistic expression because she is able to gain a sense of unity and peace.

There is a time every semester when students’ eyes are glued to their computer screens as they gain a headache in the attempt to create the perfect schedule for the following semester. Then comes the frantic time of registering for classes, hoping that the perfected schedule can stay flawless as none of the ideal courses are filled to capacity yet. Relinquish some of the anxiety of course registration by registering early on when KeanWISE opens for registration.

It is hard to become involved on campus when there is an overwhelming amount of options and sometimes students decide to not even bother joining a club. There is also the question of, “How do I even begin to find the clubs and organizations that is right for me?” Well, the answer is easy! All university organizations are listed on Cougar Link along with meeting schedules and upcoming events. Everything from Greek Life, to heritage societies, to intramural sports are popular at Kean University—but there are some groups directed at those with particular interests.

Shows like CSI, Law & Order, and Criminal Minds draw people in to the point of where reruns are watched almost as much as new episodes. There is a demand for shows that fall within the genre of crime, but why? Could it possibly be because people are fascinated with the audacity of some crimes? Or maybe it is the representation of the field of forensic psychology in the shows.

On the night of Friday, April 17, 2015, Greek Senate hosted the second annual Kean Dance Marathon (KDM). Last year, when the Leadership Institute hosted the event $12,518.10 was raised to help children receive the best care a child can receive at Children’s Specialized Hospital, located in Mountainside, New Jersey.

The first two years of college are great—that is, if taking required general education courses is how one would define “great”. By junior year, it is easy to become confused with the responsibility of choosing electives that intrigue particular interests. No one wants to be stuck in another boring class for an entire semester. With that in mind, below is a list of some of the more interesting courses offered next semester at Kean University—some are so fascinating that students might have a hard time even believing that these courses exist on campus.

Last year on April 11, 2014, the Leadership Institute of Kean University hosted the very first Kean Dance Marathon (KDM) and it was an instant success. At the end of the night, a grand total of $12,518.10 was revealed to all that participated and the campus erupted with an overwhelming amount of joy and excitement. This year, KDM is being presented by the Greek Senate and will be held in Downs Hall on April 17, 2015 from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. All proceeds of KDM will be donated to Children’s Specialized Hospital.

There are a lot of perks of becoming a college student. Students can decide how many classes one would like to take per semester, what major to study in, and, of course—especially those who live on campus—freedom from the rules that a parental figure sets in the house. Well, along with the many perks a person may receive by becoming a college student, comes several downsides and one of them includes gaining weight.

As the fall season is kicking in, most students are wondering what they should dress up as for Halloween. Halloween is celebrated by millions of people around the word as an enjoyable time for kids to wear costumes, go to their neighbors to get free candy, watch scary movies, and listen to ghost stories. It is certainly a cheerful time for people to get together and share a common experience filled with fun, laughs, and excitement. Nevertheless, for college students, the Halloween experience can perhaps be different.

Throughout the weekend of October 24, 2014, Kean’s Homecoming festivities will be in full effect. From Friday to Sunday there will be various communal events. In Harwood Arena on October 24th beginning at 6 p.m., the pep rally will kick off homecoming weekend. The pep rally is intended to incite excitement among the Kean community about what’s to come. Beginning the day on Saturday (October 25), the 5K run will take place at 8 a.m. in the Alumni Stadium. On both Friday and Saturday, The Importance of Being Earnest is being shown in Zella Fry Theatre at 8 p.m. It has been dubbed ‘a trivial comedy for serious people.’ Sunday will conclude this year’s homecoming weekend.
