On Monday, December 8, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. the center for leadership and service [CLS] will be hosting their Event Lottery Meeting in the University Center [UC] room 228. Organizations that are looking to schedule dates in Downs Hall for parties and other social events—events such as the Kean Dance Marathon [KDM], fashion shows, etc.—should attend this meeting.

Surrounded by friends and family? Watching the football game? People stuffing the turkey then stuffing their mouths? Check, check, and check. But wait…something is missing: The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade [MTDP]. If five people were asked what Thanksgiving means to them, in return there would be five diverse answers because each person incorporates their own traditions into the celebration of the holiday. Thanksgiving is a forever changing holiday, but in 1924 came one addition—in the form of a parade—to the celebration, and this caused the fourth Thursday of November to never be the same.

On the night of October 25, 2014 the Nu Sigma Phi had their 75 anniversary at the Science Mathematical and Technology [STEM] building. It was an exciting night for all current members and alumni members of the fraternity, as most of the members had not visited the university since the 25 anniversary of Nu Sigma Phi. The anniversary began with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres hour followed by dinner. One of the founding fathers came to celebrate the 75 anniversary, Henry Nemeira. Nemeira was a charter member of Nu Sigma Phi and graduated from Kean University in 1941.

Every October 31, most people gather together to dress up and enjoy Halloween festivities. Other people look at Halloween as a sinister holiday. However the holiday is perceived, it’s certainly one of a rich history.The word Halloween is a shorten version of All Hallow’s Evening, also known as Hallowe’en or All Hallow’s Eve. It is now called Halloween because “hallow” means saints and “-een” means evening.

Once the leaves start to change color on the trees and the Fall approaches, people tend to become excited about Halloween. Part of this excitement usually comes from candy and trick or treaters. For others, there are activities outside the traditional Halloween festivities that get them in the Halloween spirit. Some people set out in search of spooky attractions, and a haunted house is often the ideal place to fulfill their adrenaline cravings. There are several different haunted houses that feature various kinds of attractions that people are able to visit.

Kathy Wakile, Real Housewives of New Jersey [RHONJ] reality star, has faced her fair share of obstacles. Join the center for leadership and service [CLS] as they host the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The walk will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 in Edison, New Jersey. Susan Figueroa, managing assistant director for community service and civic engagement in the center for leadership and services [CLS] office states that, “The CLS [office] is always excited to provide students with opportunities to serve…We aim for a large impact full of presence in Edison, New Jersey this year…We will bring all the enthusiasm and support we usually rally to Newark and transport it to Edison, New Jersey.”

"Beep... Beep" the fire alarm goes off. Alvaro Llanos and Shawn Simons, two former Seton Hall University students, looked at each other and just thought it was another false alarm, so they both took their time leaving the building. Simons opened up the door and suddenly a cloud of black smoke hit him in the face and he no longer thought it was just a false alarm. They were faced with the horrifying truth that the building was on fire. This was their sad reality that they had no choice but to face on January 19, 2000. As nearly 600 freshmen slept in the six-story residency building, their worst nightmare was happening on the other end, on the third floor lounge.
