In September, the Office of Student Government and Student Organization of Kean University held their freshman class elections information sessions via Zoom to encourage students to run for the Freshman Class Executive Board and Senate. Elections will take place from Monday, Oct. 19 to Wednesday, Oct. 21, when the election announcements will be posted as a news article on Cougar Link.

It will be the fifty-ninth presidential election since the nation declared independence, but only be the twenty-fifth in which all Americans will be afforded the right to vote promised in the Constitution. With every election cycle, but perhaps more so this year than ever before, the right and obligation of every American to vote becomes clearer.

Being up-to-date on your annual flu shot and other vaccines is more important than ever during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every year, the flu spreads across college campuses nationwide. Close living quarters, shared restrooms and many social activities make a college student more likely to catch the flu. Whether one is studying in the library, attending an event or hanging out with one's suitemate in the residence halls, students are in close contact with others and therefore even more susceptible to the flu.
Thursday, Sept. 17, Kean's Pan-African Student Union (PASU) in collaboration with the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) and National Pan Hellenic Council will be hosting a student led panel discussion and open forum where students will share personal experiences pertaining to racial identity. The chaos of 2020 could not stop Americans from taking a somber moment to remember the events of 9/11. One of the ways the Kean community memorialized the precious lives that perished that day was by participating in the annual National Day of Service and Remembrance on Sept. 11 through virtual service events.
Due to the ongoing health crisis, Kean has moved much instruction to Blackboard. Though this method is helping to save health and lives, it does add a bit of frustration and stress, as there are students and faculty members who are having trouble navigating remote learning. That adjustment has hardly inhibited the institute's efforts to offer the Kean community events of vital importance to civic and community involvement as part of their mission to combat violations of human rights and liberties worldwide. Throughout September, the Human Rights Institute kicks off the fall with poignant and compelling events for all, provided virtually using Zoom.
