Every semester, Greek Senate hosts Meet the Greeks which brings together students, faculty, staff members and alumni back to Harwood Arena for a night filled with activities, music, performances and learning what Greek Life is all about from each organization on campus. Spring 2020's Meet the Greeks will take place Thursday, Jan. 30.

Kean is a very diverse campus with a plethora of involvement options for students. There are over 160 student groups on campus, all housed by the Involvement Center under the Center for Leadership and Service (CLS). These range from honor societies and student clubs to Greek organizations and student government. In addition to all of these options, students also have the opportunity to form their own student groups to fit their interests and passions.

Applications are now open for the first of Kean University's 2020 graduations. The online application deadline for May 2020 graduates is Feb. 7, 2020. The deadline for August 2020 graduates is March 6, 2020. Students should converse with their program coordinators or academic advisers to ensure they have met all the criteria for graduation - that all of their credits and other requirements are accounted for, and so on.

Becoming a new member of a Greek letter organization is both an exciting way to get involved and to open the doors to many amazing networking opportunities. Prior to joining any organization, there are certain guidelines that both new and current members need to follow as required by the Center for Leadership and Service's Greek Affairs.

Academic success is celebrated at Kean University in a variety of ways. One noteworthy accomplishment is being appointed to the Dean's List, which recognizes the earning of a high grade point average among matriculated students after each semester.

Each year, the Greek Senate at Kean University plans the Kean Dance Marathon (KDM), a fundraiser in which the proceeds are donated to the Children's Specialized Hospital in Mountainside, NJ. Each year they try and improve and top their earnings from the proceeding year. To kickoff this year's fundraising efforts, the Greeks at Kean were invited to a KDM Informational Monday, Dec. 9 from 3:15 to 4:30 in Miron Student Center (MSC), Room 228.

Spending Christmas at Hogwarts has always been a magical dream for fans of the Harry Potter franchise. Now that dream can become a reality, as Liberty Hall will be hosting a Christmas Tour: Harry Potter at Liberty Hall event. The event began Friday, Nov. 29 and will end Saturday, Dec. 28, so anyone who ever wanted to find themselves roaming the halls of Hogwarts now has a chance to do just that.

The Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) is a non-profit organization that focuses on individuals with exceptionalities and is dedicated to improving their educational outcomes, as well as erasing the stigma that surrounds them. They have a chapter at Kean known as the KUCEC, which is a community comprised of students that promote and dedicated to the advancing of the success of children with exceptionalities and disabilities.

On Friday, Dec. 6, the Human Rights Institute hosted the Shout! Poetry for Suffrage event presented by the Kean University Theatre Conservatory. The event was hosted to bring awareness to the fight for women's rights and how it affects modern day society.

On Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, the Catholic Newman Club got festive at their Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony in the Miron Student Center Atrium. Students were able to wear festive accessories and enjoy treats while celebrating the holiday spirit.Complimentary frozen hot chocolates and pretzels were provided by Auntie Anne's.

Kean Research Days 2020, happening in the spring of 2020, is just around the corner. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP) hosts the annual Research Days event at Kean University. Acting Director Susan Gannon and Assistant Director Reenat Munshi say the research days is a great way for students to network and showcase their research in non-competitive environment.

The newest of Kean University's 19 graduate programs is in Genetic Counseling (M.S.). Utilizing a diverse skill set, the new program combines science with real work practice to create and advance treatments. This program will give students the opportunity to research, advance medical science and establish new diagnostic produces.

On Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2019, students filled the STEM Auditorium for the Social Media Summit hosted by KeanTV. Attendees had the opportunity to have an open discussion with influencers in a panelist Q&A about content creation, engagement and what it takes to build a brand.

On Monday, Dec. 9, the Earth Science Club and the School of Environmental and Sustainability Studies co-hosted the Season of Light Planetarium Show, a holiday-themed presentation using astronomy to explore the holiday traditions that feature lights. The show ran from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. in the Science Building, Room 330 and was the last of five performances of the show.

Every year Kean offers students a chance to win their annual Business Plan Competition. The competition is an opportunity to validate a business idea and help forward the idea by offering participants support and constructive advice throughout the duration of the competition.
